Calling all video makers!

I am currently in the process of trying to find a good, simple (and free) video editing software for Windows 7. The video I'm trying to make is nothing elaborate, just a bunch of clips I've prepared and want to combine into one video. So far, I've tried Windows Live Movie Maker, which has been immensely unhelpful, and the old Windows Movie Maker, which has been slow.

AVS Video Editor worked about perfectly...but then I found out I need an activation code for it or else I get a watermark on my video.

As you've probably ascertained from this, I'm not experienced in video making/editing at all, and my knowledge more or less begins and ends at making clips via VirtualDub. So bear that in mind.

ETA: FOUND ONE. It's Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus.
